Door latch removal and lock body replacement
Door latch removal and lock body replacement. When we arrived, the owner was unable to open his back door. We then found out that the latch had broken off and wedged itself between the strike plate and the door. This was what caused the door to jam. Additionally, the owner had also observed that the his door latch would not fully retract, even when the handles were depressed.
In Panel 1, to facilitate door latch removal, the handles and cylinder lock had to be removed. Luckily enough, the latch could be removed. In panel 2, you can see the broken latch and the drilled holes in the lock body as part of the process. Panels 3 and 4 show the lock body replacement.
Afterwards, we instructed the owner on door latch maintenance, and differentiating between working and faulty door latches.
